Youth and Gang Mentorship Programs
Youth involved in the criminal justice system or at risk of involvement are supported with volunteer adult mentor who provide guidance, assistance and support to overcome the challenges which brought them into the system. Through this work, individuals are assisted in stabilizing their situation to move them from engagement with peers who may lead them back into criminal behaviours. Youth are supported through their court matters and in community once they have been sentenced. Most mentors provide support for a year or more to the youth they mentoring. We recently are in the process of a new program in collaboration with another Indigenous organization (Miskanawah) in Calgary to support youth with current or previous gang involvement with a focus on land-based teachings.
